Fugate previously was a member of the Tipton and Stanwood Lions Club’s before moving to Mount Vernon. “I am looking forward to leading our district this coming year and I’m excited to help all clubs in District 9EC thrive after this pandemic,” Fugate said. Fugate will be the second Lion to be elected District Governor out of Mt. Vernon. Since the club’s chartering in 1924, Mt. Vernon has had only one District Governor represent the club, Llyod C. Dean in 1935-1936. The district has 44 clubs with over 1,200 members. ![]() The Mount Vernon Lions Club once again had our Bingo Tent at Heritage Days once again. The Mt. Vernon Lions Club with Do Something Great Trivia raised over $500 to help Mt. Vernon Community School District Kids in Need Program. Brian Jaffe and Justin Pigeon of Do Something Great Trivia said. "It was an honor to partner with the Mount Vernon, Iowa Lions Club! We had a great time connecting with your community and providing opportunities for families and friends to come together, get smarter, and compete - and to donate over $500 to support the kids in your community! The money raised went to MVCSD Kids in Need. Kids in Need is a fund that is maintained by donations to help children and families of Mount Vernon. They help families with food, lunch money, housing, clothing, gas, Christmas gifts and much much more!
They also fund the Mustang Snack Pack. This is a program that gives in-need children a sack of non perishable items to take home over the weekend and on holiday breaks. The Mt. Vernon Lions Club in Partnership with the Mt. Vernon Historical Preservation Commission now has the first five years worth of documents from the start of the club on the MVHPC website.
